Koorie Night Market – Stallholder positions now available!

If you are an indigenous artist, performer or artisan, participating in a  Koorie Night Market will bring your work to the wider community and provide some income. Goods for sale must be made by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people entirely from Australian materials.

If you live in the Melbourne area you’ve probably heard about the unique cultural experience that is the Koorie Night Market. It continues to grow in popularity and stallholders are participating in other important Melbourne events. Koorie Night Market Incorporated is a majority Indigenous controlled organisation. Project partners include Connecting Home,  Songlines Aboriginal Music Corporation, The Koorie Heritage Trust, City of Melbourne, community organisations and stallholders.

Mick Harding, Indigenous Artist and Sculptor said “The opportunity they (KNM) provide us is to promote ourselves and our uniqueness as South Eastern Indigenous artists to the wider community in a setting that is professional and at the same time welcoming to everyone – no matter what their background.”

Marc Williams from Deadly Design, a Victorian Indigenous graphic design company, said it had been a great experience to participate in and support the Koorie Night Market. “Traditional and contemporary Indigenous arts and crafts in Victoria are alive and well – and there’s a lot of interest in the broader community,” Mr Williams said.

Sandy Myers, a stallholder who sells Koorie handcrafts, encouraged new stallholders to come forward to increase participation and diversity.“I think there are so many possibilities for different types of stalls and I encourage community members to join in,” Ms Myers said. “I love being part of the Koorie Night Market".
